Montcalm and Gratiot County Updates
January 26th is the Board of Commissioners meeting in Montcalm County. It is the day the commissioners will decide whether to continue to give animals to research dealer R & R Research. Here is a new article about Montcalm: http://www.poocini.com/report/archives/1084

Gratiot County voted 5 to 2 to continue its deal with the devil. How sad that in 2009 a Michigan county continues to fail its residents by giving animals to the archaic Class B Dealer system.

Bloomfield Hills Calling Upon Hunters to Kill Coyotes
Without a study to determine the number of coyotes in the area, Bloomfield Hills officials are sending in sharp shooters to kill coyotes. No one knows how many coyotes are in the area, whether the number is a real threat or whether there is a humane alternative to the hunters. Because people are scared, the coyotes will be killed, sadly this is a typical human reaction. Fear equals massacre.

Will Detroit Ever Build a New Animal Shelter?
The Detroit News reports that little progress has been made on building the new Detroit Animal Control Shelter. In fact, it looks like the shelter will not be built. The Detroit Animal Control shelter is a well documented hell hole where a lack of compassion dominates the employee's culture. Cited by the state for violations too numerous to list, the city agreed to build a new shelter to improve conditions for the animals. Another broken promise will guarantee that thousands of animals suffer and die needless deaths in Detroit's sad excuse for a shelter for years to come.

Help Montcalm County Companions

December 15, 2008 at 1pm the Montcalm County Board of Commissioners will address issues surrounding the county animal shelter. Currently, the shelter gives all animals over 30 pounds to Class B research dealer, R & R Research, which either resells the animals to research or kills them. The county kills strays under thirty pounds in a barrel that is filled with carbon dioxide gas, a heinous death. Speak out on behalf of Montcalm companion animals by either attending the meeting or letting the Commissioners know that you demand compassionate treatment for Montcalm dogs and cats. Did You Know - Horses Being Sent to Slaughterhouses in Canada and Mexico
Deeply disturbing report that is a must read for horse lovers. The bottom line, never sell a horse at auction. If you sell a horse, know who is buying, do not just give your horse to the nice guy with a family who claims they need a horse for a companion. Deliver the horse yourself and finally remember, the horse depends upon you to act responsibily, sadly they cannot protect themselves.
